No Longer Strangers

Music by  Daniel Kallman
Lyrics by Christine Kallman
SATB, organ, 2 trps., 2 trbs., opt. horn, opt. tuba, opt. flute; 3’20”.

A celebratory anthem based on the well-known Ephesians text on community in Christ. Level: Med-Adv.

My husband and I were asked to write a work based on Ephesians 2:19-21 for the 90th anniversary of our congregation in 1998. Below is the text for the anthem.

No Longer Strangers

You are no longer strangers, you belong
With all the saints to the abundant house
Of God, which still is being built upon
The works and words of all who’ve gone before,
But chiefly on the one, the cornerstone:
Jesus Christ, the carpenter of love.
In Christ our stubborn wills are joined as one.
In Christ our meager faith is made to grow
Into a temple rare and beautiful,
As Jesus takes our very spirit-lives
And builds them up together in the air:
A consecrated vessel for God’s love.
