An uplifting call to unity, love, and reconciliation. For congregational singing. A winning commission of the LutheranArts 2017 Martin Luther Hymn Prize honoring the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Also available as an SATB anthem. (more)

I John 3:17-18 (also Matthew 25:35-36, Isaiah 58:6-7, Luke 14:13)
Six verses with refrain call us to love in action and in truth, as we leap to the aid of the needy, the sick, the poor, the stranger. This text was one of two winners in the LutheranArts Hymn Text Competition, and has since been set by Marty Haugen. The hymn was premiered on October 29, 2017 at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, at a hymn sing entitled For Freedom Christ Has Set Us Free in honor of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

“Let the Same Mind Be Among You” (music by Daniel Kallman). Congregation with optional SATB choir, organ or piano, 4’00”. This congregational hymn is based on Philippians 2:1-11. The Apostle Paul quotes an ancient hymn as he urges the Philippians to be like Christ, humbling themselves and serving one another. (more)

“Litany for Creation” (music by Daniel Kallman). Cantor, congregation, SATB or unison chorus, keyboard; 3’00”. A responsive prayer for our stewardship of God’s creation. Level: Easy.  (more)

“The Fruit of Charity”  (music by Daniel Kallman).  Unison voices, keyboard, 3’30”. Jesus’ words, “I am the Vine, you are the branches” (John 15), newly paraphrased and set to original tune and harmonization. (more)

Based on an original tune that is noble and expansive, this anthem is an exhortation to unity, love, and peace. Level: Moderately Easy. “Christ, the Promise of Tomorrow”  (anthem; music by Daniel Kallman).  SATB, opt. treble choir or treble solo, flute, organ, handbells; 5’30”.  Hope overflows in this anthem in praise of Christ, our Fount of living waters. (more)

“No Longer Strangers” (music by Daniel Kallman). SATB, organ, 2 trps., 2 trbs., opt. horn, opt. tuba, opt. flute; 3’20”.  A celebratory anthem based on the well-known Ephesians text on community in Christ. (more)

“And on Earth, Peace” (music by  Daniel Kallman). Version 1: SATB, full orchestra, organ, harp, piano, percussion; Version 2: SATB, winds, organ, harp, piano, percussion; 9’15”.  A serene opening leads to a musical depiction of a broken peace, transcended by healing and grace as the work culminates in an extended jubilant Gloria. “A Child’s Carol” (music by Daniel Kallman). SATB a cappella, 1’30”. This simple carol was awarded first prize in Toronto’s 1986 Amadeus Carol Competition. (more)
